On May 22, 2021, grandfather Yuan Longping, winner of China's highest science and Technology Award and father of hybrid rice, left the world. On that day, the whole world seemed to be gray.

Grandfather Yuan Longping's outstanding achievements in hybrid rice do not need to be repeated. He is one of the people who have experienced hunger, but he has fought against hunger all his life. When he got up early, he was not optimistic about hybrid rice at all. Until 1964, Yuan Longping discovered natural male sterile plants. In the following years, he successively found several male sterile plants. The discovery of these male sterile plants broke the original theory of "asexual hybridization" and confirmed the possibility of hybrid rice. Then he led his team to start the research on hybrid rice. In 1970, Yuan Longping began the research on hybrid rice, Mr. Li Bihu, a student of Yuan Longping, found a wild pollen abortion sterile plant in Sanya with local technicians, which was named "Yebai" by Yuan Longping. However, this was not cultivated successfully. After a long time of research, in 1973, the world's first indica hybrid rice was finally cultivated successfully. So far, the world food industry began to change.
The successful cultivation of hybrid rice has rapidly increased China's grain yield, making China the first country in the world to utilize heterosis in rice production. In 1996, Yuan Longping once again dismantled the super hybrid rice cultivation plan. Until the day before he left, he never stopped his research on rice. If someone said that it was just work for him, I think it was offensive. With the development of the Internet, it seems that many people can evaluate him, but in fact, everyone's cognition is very shallow. Some people point out that the taste of hybrid rice is not good.
